The 2020 World Series Champs, The Los Angeles Dodgers

They did it, they really fricken did it! After 3 World Series appearances in 4 years, the Los Angeles Dodgers won their first World Series Championship in 32 years.

I know other teams have had longer world series droughts, Cubs with 107 years and the White Sox with 87 years, but I’ve waited my whole life for this World Series Championship. The last Dodgers championship in 1988 happened 5 years before I was born.

The quote “In a year that has been so improbable, the impossible has happened,” plays over and over in my head. This year really does seem improbable. We didn’t think we would even have baseball this year, let alone make it through the whole season.

The 2020 Dodgers were hot from the start, ending the season with the best record, 43-17. You really couldn’t ask for more from a team going through a season during a global pandemic. There were so many changes to this season that it would be impossible to name them all.

From completely empty stadiums, to having cardboard cutouts, to having fans at both the NLCS and World Series, it’s been a lot of adjusting for the players and coaches. There is nothing like the energy of having your fans there cheering you on. It seemed like the energy was definitely felt by the players. From all the amazing catches by the outfield and the moonshots hit throughout the two series, the eruption of the crowd was heard throughout the stadium.

There really is no other feeling like seeing your team win the World Series. There is no way to describe the way it felt to see Clayton Kershaw finally lift the commissioner’s trophy. Watching Corey Seager win MVP just a few short years after being sidelined with Tommy John surgery made fans nothing short of proud. Seeing the heart and soul of the team, Justin Turner, get his photo on the field with the trophy, despite testing positive for Covid-19 during the game.

There was nothing like seeing this team battle it out all season and coming out on top. Even when they were down 3-1 in the NLCS, the boys in blue kept battling to beat the Atlanta Braves in 7 games. Game 3 of the NLCS was one of the most exciting games I’ve ever watched. They came out guns a blazin’, scoring 11 runs in the top of the first inning.

Each and every player has their own story, whether it’s how they started playing baseball, how they overcame slumps or how they came back from injuries, the 2020 Los Angeles Dodgers played with heart and passion. They were able to deliver an MLB World Series to the City of Angels after 32 years and a heartbreaking start to 2020 when we lost Kobe Bryant.

The players that proudly wear Los Angeles across their chests showed that despite a global pandemic, they don’t give up. Congrats to the players and the fans of Los Angeles sports. We’re in this together. I can’t wait to celebrate the 2020 World Series Champions, the Los Angeles Dodgers, along with my fellow Angelinos. We waited 32 years for this; we can wait until it’s safe to celebrate, safely. We earned this.
