Bauer got the bag…from Los Angeles

Trevor Bauer finally signed with a team and that team just so happens to be the defending World Champions, the Los Angeles Dodgers. This announcement comes one year and one day after the Mookie Betts to LA trade was announced. As a Dodger fan, February is shaping up to be one of my favorite months of the year.

Bauer had been trolling many fan bases since the 2020 season ended. He’s been on twitter asking about dinner suggestions in certain cities, retweeting videos of fans from differnt fan bases asking him to sign with their team, and posting YouTube videos aimed at specific teams. Most recently and most intensely, he trolled the New York Mets. He had a link in his instagram bio with LGM merch on sale…which of course ended up being removed from his website…but not after riling up the fans in Queens.

Mets fans got excited about the possibility of Bauer heading to Queens. Thinking that Steve Cohen had this signing in the bag then quickly making a 180 degree turn saying they never wanted him anyway…sure, Jan… which I can’t imagine the rollercoaster of emotions Mets fans have been feeling over the last few weeks.

One of the first times I personally heard about Bauer and his big personality was this instance below, when he got ROCKED by the Royals in 2019. Tossing a ball over the center field fence at Kauffman Stadium. Just a few days after this incident, the Indians traded Bauer to the Reds… which I think that move was best for him, I mean, he did end up winning the NL Cy Young in Cincinnati while former Indians teammate, Shane Bieber won the AL Cy Young. They couldn’t have both won it while in the same league…obviously.

Trevor is from SoCal so it just makes sense that the reigning Cy Young comes to the reigning Champs. After graduating high school early, he stayed in the Los Angeles area, playing college ball at UCLA where he made a major impact with arch enemy Gerrit Cole. I couldn’t imagine growing up in Southern California and not wanting to get paid to put on the iconic Dodgers jersey at some point in your career. Plus, who wouldn’t want be part the Dodgers starting rotation among names like Clayton Kershaw, Walker Buehler, and all the others?

Of course this signing helps heal the wounds of Dodger fans after seeing two fan favorites sign with other teams. Losing Enrique Hernández to the Boston Red Sox and Joc Pederson to the Chicago Cubs hurt, but we appreciate all that they did for us over the years. They left as champs and left footprints on the hearts of all the Angelinos that bleed Dodger Blue.

We can’t wait either…

The details of his contract came out not long after the news broke and let’s just say that his wallet is going to be heavy. Even if he opts out after one year, I think he’s going to make a major impact on the 2021 Los Angeles Dodgers season. Let’s just hope fans get to see him take the mound at Dodger Stadium this season.

Who knows what Bauer’s numbers are going to look like coming off of a Cy Young year…all I know is that Trevor is going to look mighty good in Bauer Blue.
