Tonight the Dodgers scored 11 runs in the bottom of the first, including a Cody Bellinger grand slam. The Dodgers beat the Cardinals 14-3 in their final game of this homestand. With the 11 runs in the 1st, it marks the most runs in one inning most of a regular-season game since moving to Los Angeles, so that’s pretty cool. It feels great having Bellinger back after he missed most of the season so far due to a hairline fracture in his leg.
Last nights game ended with what felt like a punch in the gut when Tyler O’Neill made a leaping catch to that probably would have been a 3 run home run from Mookie Betts. Twitter exploded with disbelief and that marked the 13th game lost by one run for this 2021 Dodgers team.
So after that game ending play, today’s game really felt like a gift from the baseball gods. Mookie Betts also had 2 hits today, hopefully that means he will start heating up, this season has felt like a slump for some of our star players from the 2020 season.
Two of the 14 runs came from a Walker Buehler double in the fourth inning. It’s always something special when pitchers rake. To hell with anyone that wants a universal DH, where’s the fun in that?
The Dodgers have an off day tomorrow, then start a 3 game series against the Atlanta Braves on Friday, with a starting rotation of Urias, Kershaw and Bauer. They are currently in 3rd place in the NL West, 1.5 games behind the first place Giants and a half game behind the Padres.
I’ll leave you with this Bellinger grand slam that put a smile on everyone’s face… well maybe not the Cardinals and their fans.
